DE-MYSTIFYING BOOK DISTRIBUTION

* How do I get into bookstores?
* What's a Distributor?
* What's a Wholesaler?
* Why do they matter?
* What are returns?
* Why do I have to give a discount?
* Is old-style distribution right for me?
* Why should I print a bunch of books when POD sounds like a better deal?

We'll be covering these and many other questions in this wide-ranging talk that features strategies for maximizing distribution into the new and rapidly evolving book trade.

Bring questions!

-------------------------

NOTE: We're meeting on the 3rd Saturday of the month rather than our usual 4th due to Thanksgiving.
There will be no meeting in December. Merry Christmas!

Beagle Bay Inc.

Jacqueline Church Simonds
started her career in publishing by putting out her own novel, Captain Mary, Buccaneer in 2000. Discovering that it was easy to publish but hard to succeed at it, she and her husband, Robin, formed Beagle Bay, Inc. Since then Simonds has become the editor of 21 books, publisher of 14 titles, has received many national awards for her work and sold many of Beagle Bay's titles to foreign countries. Through Creative Minds Press (www.creativemindspress.com), their book packaging company, she has assisted many new publishers achieve publishing success. Beagle Bay, Inc is also a distributor of other small press books.

Simonds is currently the co-moderator of the SPAN Self-Publishing Discussion Group http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Self-Publishing/ the largest and oldest on-line group dedicated to publishing on the Internet. She is the author of the New Self-Publisher's FAQ http://www.creativemindspress.com/newbiefaq.htm and blogs about publishing issues at http://smallpressworld.com/blog/ .
