CAROL PETERSEN PURROY grew up in California's Central Valley. She married at 18 and, over the next 10 years, had three sons, Steven, Martin and Alexandre.

She has lived in Germany, Northern California's Wine Country, Colorado, Sri Lanka and Puerto Rico. She now lives in Reno, NV.

She reentered the academic world in her mid-30's and earned a BA in Anthropology, Teaching Credentials, an MA and most of a PhD in Psychology.

In addition to being a writer, she has been a teacher (K - 12 & college), travel agent, entrepreneur, psychotherapist & clinical hypnotherapist, publisher, editor, disaster relief worker, homemaker/mother.

She was publisher, editor and chief writer of 2 San Francisco magazines. And she writes a monthly column for senior publications.

She is a world traveler who loves learning about and connecting with people of all cultures.

She teaches at Truckee Meadows Community College, and offers writing workshops (www.sierrawritingworkshop.com) and women's retreats (www.wwwomens-retreats.com). Scroll down for direct links.

She enjoys reading, writing, mentoring, tandem biking, gardening, cooking, painting, knitting, music, and a whole bunch of other things.

Inasmuch as her parents both died very young, she never got their stories. Knowing so little about them left a big hole in her psyche . . . . . . and her life. She doesn't want that to happen to others. So she began teaching memoir writing at senior centers (and then at colleges) in 1991, inspiring and encouraging them to get their life stories IN WRITING. It's her favorite career, so far. She loves reading/hearing all their stories.

To reach a broader audience she wrote YOUR LIFE OUGHTA BE A BOOK.

She loves writing: fiction, memoir, nonfiction, poetry, essays, etc. And she wrote a cookbook with autobiographical bits that are associated with a particular recipe.

She's written a Middle Grade (grades 4 - 6) novel (MISS ROGERS STINKS) which is 90% fiction, but has autobiographical elements. She's currently at work on a second Middle Grade novel, and a Young Adult novel.

(She's also written adult novels, as yet unpublished.)

She has one granddaughter, Hannah, a college girl, and is honorary "Grandma" to several others.
